Welcome to Castle Wackerly (Or: Look What I Made!)
Hey guys!
Welcome to my middle finger to working for someone else and doing something I love instead!
Castle Wackerly begins
TBH, Castle Wackerly started out a few years ago when I had a serious jag of just falling in love with the way the hook and yarn felt in my hands. It got a little more serious for me when I went through one of those big, yucky traumatic experiences and needed something else to focus on.
And, because escalation, I had yet another traumatic experience, and crochet became one of the things in my life that I knew I was still good at. A life saver, if you will.
Right on par with my high school art class experience – I wanted to be good at painting watercolor nature scenes and ended up far more talented at pencil drawings of faces – my yarn identity is fingering and sport weight yarn, tiny hooks and stitches with lots of texture, when I wish I was talented with big chunky yarns so I could make sweaters and those hats topped with a cute fur poof.
Instead of those sweaters and hats that I dream of, accessories are my jam.
Off-beat accessories
- Crowns
- Voodoo dolls
- Jewelry cases
- Cell phone wristlet (get the pattern free here!)
- Fingerless mittens (honest, this happened because I was a journalist for most of my adult life and it was like impossible to take notes while wearing mittens).
Seriously, swoon. Who expects a crochet voodoo doll? (They’re adorable, and useful, if you’re into that kind of thing!)
I’m also a fan of cross stitch, and I’ve been working on some cross stitch patterns that make my heart happy as well. I’m particularly excited to add some sassy little projects for beginners who are building confidence with their new art form.
What can you expect from me, you ask? Patterns, tips, upcoming projects, bonding over mutually relatable life topics, encouragement to try something new, and for sure some off-beat humor and sassiness.
I’ll see you back here soon!
